Chili pepper is a fruit of the Capsicum plant in the nightshade family (Solanaceae). Capsaicin (C9H14O2), the spicy component in chili peppers, has medicinal uses and is widely used in traditional medicine. Rubbing alcohol infused with chili pepper on the skin can relieve fatigue and soreness, while chili powder mixed with cinnamon and sugar can treat stupor. Chili can also treat abdominal pain, toothache, headache, swollen throat, numbness, and nervousness. Crushed chili leaves can be applied to snake bites or itchy skin. Chili roots, especially the dangerous type, are brewed to treat malaria.
